Another fresh earthquake has struck in Nepal on 12th May , which is of the magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale. Tremors have been felt in many parts of India as well including Delhi, UP, Bihar, Assam and as far as Odisha. Tremors have also been felt in Afghanistan.
The country is already reeling under the disaster that struck in the form of a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck during the last month this year.
7 earthquakes happened today in Nepal
Atleast 7 quakes have been reported by the United States Geological Society (USGS) to be occurring today in Nepal. The following image shows that many earthquakes have been recorded by the USGS of various magnitudes that occurred in Nepal.
This quake has again shook many buildings across Nepal, with people have moving and rushing out to the streets in Kathmandu – many eyewitnesses said.
Epicentre in Laduk region of Nepal
The epicentre of the current quake has been identified to be in the Laduk region, South East of Kathmandu (82 kms from Kathmandu). Many seismic experts opine that this is indeed an aftershock of the earlier quake that had struck in April.
Tremors in Delhi
Tremors have felt in many parts in India too including Delhi, UP, Assam, Bihar. People in Connaught Place in New Delhi have also reported as of feeling the tremors.
The Associated Press has indicated out that the latest earthquake has been deeper, coming from a depth of 18.5 kilometres (11.5 miles) versus the earlier quake that hit 15 kilometres (9.3 miles).
The hashtag #PrayforNepal has already been trending in Twitter with many people praying for the lives under danger in Nepal. The earlier earthquake itself had claimed over 8000 lives leaving many more homeless. With this fresh set of tremors, many more lives are expected to be in danger.
Relief efforts already on
Relief efforts have however already begun in the area. Nepalese government which is still finding it hard to recover from the previous quake, has announced its relief operations. The Indian Government has also indicated that it would send the experts from National Disaster Management Team for carrying out relief operations in Nepal.
