Narendra Modi has today officially taken his charge as the Prime Minister of India. Assuming his office early in the morning in the South Block, he began his work by first paying tributes to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi.
Narendra Modi, who took oath as the 15th PM of India yesterday, had started signing the official papers that were present on his table. He has also met the senior officials who will play a crucial role in discharging his duties in the coming days.
Ministry Portfolios official
The speculations over the allotment of portfolios to the ministers has come to an end. It has become official now that Mr. Rajnath Singh will be made the Home minister. Rajnath Singh had taken oath immediately after Modi yesterday.
Arun Jaitley will be the Finance Minister of India. He will also hold the Defence minister.
Ms. Sushma Swaraj will be the Minister of External Affairs, while Nitin Gadkari is slated to hold the portfolio of Transport.
Modi will meet Nawaz Sharif
As part of his official work today, Modi is slated to meet Mr. Nawaz Sharif, the Prime minister of Pakistan. It would be interesting to see how the discussions would span out, in the wake of Modi’s critical views on Pakistan and China that were expressed during his campaign speeches during the pre-election rallies.
Modi is also slated to meet the SAARC leaders, who had arrived here to be present in his swearing-in ceremony.
