Nifty shuts mildly in the red. Sterlite down 6%.

Markets closed the shop with the indices ending mildly in the red. Some of the banking, telecom and infrastructure stocks held up high, while metal counters were the biggest laggards.

The Nifty closed at 5042, down by 6 points or -0.13%.

Hindalco closed 5% down in the trade. Sterlite was down by over 6%. Coal India closed 3.2% lower. Tata steel managed to close with a cut of over 2%. Jindal steel was also down by 2.7%.

Hero Motors (HEROMOTOCO) closed 4.2% down from yesterday’s close. Maruti however gained rapidly in the later half of the session, and closed with a whopping 5.8% gain.

Telecom stocks were all in the green. Bharti closed 2.8% higher, while RCOM was up by 1.2%. Idea cellular shot up by 3.7%.

Suzlon energy closed by seeing 6.2% gains. The stock was in demand from the beginning of the trading today.
IVRCL Infra also closed with 4.3% gains.
